Jade Tyrrell is honoured to nominate for re-election to the Council of the Law Society of New South Wales, where she has proudly served as a Councillor for the past six years. During that time, she has worked hard to support the profession, advocate for its interests, and ensure that the Law Society provides strong, thoughtful leadership for members during times of significant change.
Priorities
- Responsible use of AI. As a member of the Law Society’s AI Taskforce, Jade has been closely involved in examining how artificial intelligence will affect the profession. She has presented to regional law societies on navigating AI in practice, including in relation to the Supreme Court’s Gen AI Practice Note, and actively monitors ongoing developments. Her focus is on helping all lawyers - whether in the city or the regions - adopt AI in ways that are ethical and practical, creating efficiencies that enhance daily work while also supporting social justice and human rights.
- Improving diversity and inclusion. As Chair of the Law Society’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Jade is passionate about ensuring the profession reflects the community it serves. She has championed initiatives to strengthen diversity and inclusion, recognising that diverse perspectives at all levels of leadership make the profession stronger, more innovative, and better placed to serve clients and the broader community. She remains committed to further progress in this area.
- Law reform advocacy and regulatory support. Jade values the Law Society’s role as a respected voice for lawyers and a leader in policy and law reform advocacy. She has contributed to policy committees that strengthen justice and the legal system, and is focused on ensuring that regulatory changes - such as the implementation of AML/CTF reforms - are accompanied by practical support and resources so that burdens are manageable and public trust is upheld.
- Supporting the next generation of lawyers. Having served as Secretary of Young Lawyers and as Chair of the Civil Litigation Committee, Jade understands the opportunities and challenges faced by early career practitioners. She is committed to ensuring that young lawyers are equipped with the tools, mentoring, and opportunities they need to succeed and thrive in the profession.
- Empowering lawyers. Jade will continue to promote a mentally healthy, supportive and safe working environment. This includes raising awareness of existing vital services including the confidential counselling offered by the Solicitor Outreach Service and recognising where there is a need for more robust support for wellbeing and for stronger mental health initiatives.
Above all, Jade is deeply committed to defending and strengthening the rule of law. She recognises it as the foundation of our justice system, the guarantee of democratic freedoms, and the heart of the profession’s purpose. She is determined to ensure it is not eroded on her watch.
