Solicitors are carrying more change, cost and risk than ever - AI and new ways of delivering legal services, cybersecurity, rising regulatory load, heavier workloads and unqualified "advisers" encroaching on legal work. It falls hardest on small, sole and mid-sized practices, suburban and regional practitioners, legal aid lawyers and those starting out - the very people who are under-represented on Council. Too often the Law Society has recognised that change is coming, without providing members with enough practical help to meet it.

Three solicitors who do the day-to-day work of the profession - in courtrooms, in-house and in new kinds of practice - are standing together for the Law Society of NSW Council. They want a Law Society that gets things done for lawyers in every kind of practice - small, medium and large firms, companies and government - and they have the track record to do it.

Rebecca Grant works where legal services meet technology, risk and commercial delivery, and brings a strong focus on delivering for lawyers everywhere. Timothy Roberts is a lawyer for salaried doctors, the Young Lawyer Councillor, and President of the NSW Council for Civil Liberties. Vaughan Roles is a serving Councillor and a Legal Aid criminal litigator with 27 years in practice.

Between them they know practice from the inside - small and mid-sized firms, in-house, government and Legal Aid, city, suburban and regional, early career and late. Each has written their own statement, in their own words, which you can read on this site.

It is important you vote for all three, to return balance to the Law Society Council and deliver practical support to practitioners.

• Practical help with AI and technologyThe Law Society should help practitioners use AI and new technology safely and well, not just tell them that change is coming - and should work to close the technology gap between small practices and large firms.
• A profession people can stay inWorkload, wellbeing, carer responsibilities, retention and the sustainability of small and sole practice are professional issues, not private ones, and belong on Council's agenda.
• Protecting clients, the profession and the justice systemAction must be taken against unqualified "advisers" and "bots", who use new models of service delivery to encroach on our heavily regulated profession - undermining the sustainability of legal practice.
• The rule of law and access to justiceA confident, credible Law Society voice for the rule of law, the independence of the profession, and proper funding for Legal Aid and the DPP.
