Wen-Ts'ai Lim

About

Wen-Ts’ai Lim has practised law for over 35 years. During that time, he has witnessed widespread changes to the practice of law, driven by technology and globalisation. These changes have placed increased pressures on solicitors, inflating hours in the office and eroding leisure time.

Wen-Ts'ai’s priority in nominating for election to the Council of the Law Society of New South Wales is to assist the profession in addressing the significant challenges that lie ahead. He is particularly focused on strengthening post-admission skills training, helping solicitors adapt to the challenges of artificial intelligence, and advocating for common-sense reforms to the regulatory burdens imposed (in some respects unfairly) on members of the profession - for example aspects of AML and CTF regulation.

He is honoured to represent the profession as a solicitor member of the Legal Profession Admission Board, where he has been actively participating in the review of Practical Legal Training in New South Wales. Wen believes that his election to Council would provide valuable representation, bringing visibility over both pre- and post-admission skills training to better support the profession.

Priorities

  • Strengthening post-admission skills training to better support the development of solicitors throughout their careers.
  • Assisting the profession to adapt to AI and the technological changes reshaping legal practice.
  • Introducing common-sense reforms to regulation, ensuring burdens such as AML/CTF requirements are fair and proportionate.

"With over three decades of experience, I want to ensure that our profession remains resilient, well-supported, and equipped to meet the challenges of the future.

To ensure the Law Society has diverse and expert leadership, I am seeking election to Council with 5 other lawyers that I encourage you to support."
