Why all three matter
With only three positions up for election, you need to vote to bring back balance to ensure the Law Society Council reflects the profession it represents. These are the three candidates that will ensure Council is not only representative, but taking practical action to assist you in your practice.
Three practices, one profession. These three do the day-to-day work of the profession - in courtrooms, in-house and in new kinds of practice. Rebecca works where legal services meet technology, risk and commercial delivery. She wants practical help with the business of law for small and mid-sized practices. Timothy is a lawyer for salaried doctors. He came to the law from teaching in regional NSW and is now the Young Lawyer Councillor. Vaughan is a Legal Aid criminal litigator, in court almost every day for 27 years and frequently in regional NSW. Between them: small and mid-sized practice, in-house, government and Legal Aid, city, suburban and regional, early career and late. Council needs more of that coal-face experience.
They already agree on what needs doing. Practical help with AI and new technology rather than warnings about it. Workload, wellbeing and the sustainability of small and sole practice treated as professional issues, not private ones. A confident Law Society voice for the rule of law and proper funding for Legal Aid and the DPP.
They will work as a team. Three Councillors who arrive with shared priorities can move them. That is why this is a ticket and not three separate campaigns.
